Our postgraduate events offer a space for students and early-career researchers to engage with current debates in memory studies. Each academic year, we host a masterclass led by a leading scholar in the field. Once per semester, our research assistant leads a reading group in which participants discuss a selected text and explore its implications for cultural understanding and change. Our annual postgraduate symposium brings together research on memory from across our faculties and beyond, offering a day-long forum for exchange, presentation, and discussion.
Reading Group
The CIMS Reading Group offers a space for interdisciplinary discussion about cultural identity, memory, and their role in society. At each meeting, participants will discuss a selected text, including both canonical works and more recent publications; this will be followed by group discussions to think about the text’s wider implications for cultural understanding and change.
Masterclasses
The CIMS Postgraduate Masterclasses give postgraduate students the opportunity to engage closely with leading scholars in cultural identity and memory studies. At each masterclass, an invited scholar will introduce key concepts, methods, or current research questions; this will be followed by discussion of a short preparatory reading and open exchange with participants.
Postgrad Symposium
Each year, CIMS hosts a day-long Postgraduate Symposium showcasing research on cultural identity and memory studies from across the University. Organised by our research assistant, the symposium focuses on a different theme each year; it gives postgraduate researchers the opportunity to present and discuss their work and connect with others working in related fields.
