Reading Group: “Methodologies in the Environmental Humanities”

The CIMS PG Reading Group launched its academic year with an engaging session focused on “Methodologies in the Environmental Humanities.” This meet-up took place on a warm Friday afternoon, at 4 pm, March 15th, in Room 13 of United Colleges, serving as a prelude to a subsequent PG training session in the Environmental Humanities scheduled for March 18th. The event was an excellent opportunity for attendees to gather, savour some snacks, and dive into two captivating readings.

The initial reading, the introduction of “The Botany of Desire,” delves into the intricate relationship between humans and plants.

The follow-up reading, “A Victorian Taste of Italy: Situating the ‘Italian-Swiss Colony’,” authored by Professor Michelle Monserrati, examines the dynamic between the vineyard’s symbolic significance and the prevailing racial narratives of the era in California.

This gathering not only shed light on our environmental interactions but also prepared the ground for meaningful discussions. We were merging scholarly diligence with relaxed, stimulating dialogue, and building our PG community in the environmental humanities.
