CIMS PG Symposium 2021-2022: ‘Memory, Crisis and Estrangement’

Friday 22 April 2022: ‘Memory, Crisis and Estrangement’

We are very excited to announce the programme for our first joint PGR Symposium with our Going Global partner, the Centre for Memory Studies at IIT Madras (Chennai, India)—sponsored by the British Council and the St Leonard’s Postgraduate College Community Fund.

Join us for a highly stimulating day of ideas, discussions, and even short films touching on the themes of memory, crisis and estrangement. We are highly honoured that Prof. Stef Craps (Ghent University, Belgium) will deliver the keynote lecture, ‘The Work of Mourning in an Age of Ecocide’.

We are also hugely excited that we will feature a sneak preview of a brand new short film: ‘Be by my side’, a really touching meditation on the appeal of narrations about ‘hero journeys’—set against the backdrop of a very literal ‘burnout’ crisis—written and directed by Eden Igwe (School of English) and produced by Julia Lurfová (School of Geography and Sustainable Development).
